Beginning in 1969, Porsche offered its 911 series in 3 distinct variants: 911T, 911E, 911S. The T was essentially the “Touring” version with all of the comforts and amenities Porsche believed its Customers desired. The E was the middle ground model in both performance and “luxury”, and the S version was the “Super” variant being the most advanced, most powerful, and generally the rarest of the breed (and the most expensive!!).
Early engine displacement from 1967-1969 was 2.0L and then moved in 1970-1971 to 2.2L. Carburetors were used through 1968, but in 1969, the 911E and 911S received Bosch mechanical fuel injection which continued in 1971 as well. In 1971, the 911S produced an astonishing 180 hp which gave the car a top speed of 142 mph!
1970-1971s were offered as a hard top, hard top with sunroof, and the relatively rare Targa.
